Transport To Koh Chang The Koh Chang Sun
In the past, it was just a public bus to Trat, but happily things have moved on and nowadays there are a myriad of ways, private transfer, flying to Trat Airport with Bangkok Airways, public bus or minibus, Bangkok taxi even, with which to make the bangkok to koh samet journey. Ao Thammachat pier and/or Trat can also be reached directly by minibus from Pattaya (departures in the morning and afternoon), Ban Phe / Ko Samet (departing at 9:30 and 11:30), Had Lek (southern Thai-Cambodian border) and even as far afield as Siem Reap in Cambodia.
There are several hiking trails around Koh Chang, some of them requiring a multi-day trek and others simpler, half day treks that go through the thick jungle to reach some beautiful waterfalls The only problem with the hikes is the heat – but the nature, the waterfalls and the wildlife are beautiful, confirming Koh Chang reputation for being one of the best islands in Thailand.
Tickets can be bought on-line at the Suvarnabhumi Burapha Bus Company There are also express shared minibuses running from Suvarnabhumi airport non-stop to Lonely Beach on Ko Chang via the Lonely Beach Express Tickets are 308 baht for the big bus and 600 baht (800 baht round trip) for the minibus which includes a ticket for the ferry.
PLEASE NOTICE: Because all our drivers are from Koh Chang our transfers only make sense if the pick-up or the target is located on Koh Chang or the surrounding mainland (piers to Koh Mak and Koh Kood) because we always have to calculate the prices from the island!
You can get from Bangkok to Trat first and than proceed to Laem Ngop by songthaew, but more and more companies are offering direct service to Laem Ngop or Koh Chang (normally to Koh Chang Pier) which is obviously a more convenient option, usually at more or less the same price.
